We are pleased to invite you to the screening of the documentary "Building Community of Commons in Greece. A Documentary about The Sarantaporo.gr Community Network", which will take place on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the Athens Impact Hub.

The documentary has been shot over the last 3 years in the Greater Sarantaporo area by Personal Cinema with the support of Sarantaporo.gr and crowd funding through a crowdfunding campaign on the Goteo platform involving 88 people from Greece and abroad.

Community Networks Stories - albeit with different names - can be traced back to the early days of the Internet, but come back with much greater intensity from the 1990s on.

Ιn recent years, however, with the revelations of Edward Snowden, Aaron Swartz and WikiLeaks, as well as widespread net neutrality, there is an international scene of artists, hackers and network professionals working together with ordinary users looking for and finding new ways to use Community Networks alternatively.

Trends are emerging and hybridizing the network system architecture, the relationships that develop between users and networks, as well as between users themselves. This central demand concerns the development of off-the-cloud networks with specific qualities. Networks that are outside corporate monopoly structures but are interconnected and can offer solutions to problems in the productive economy, the cultural scene, security of use and the inclusion of large populations, such as refugees.

At the Transitional Networks Workshop, which will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 6:00 pm at the Onassis Stegi, the keynote speakers, Elias Marmaras, George Klissiaris and Panagiotis Antoniadis, will present cases from Greece and the world of community networks built to provide connectivity to disadvantaged groups, such as rural areas (Sarantaporo.gr Community Network) and refugees, but will also examine the relevance of these activities to the contemporary critical artistic creation.

On Saturday 28 May 2016 at 17.00-17.10 in the conference "Social Policy and Social Innovation in Health" Dr. Christos Klissiaris, Assistant Professor of Primary Nursing and Home Health Care, Department of Nursing, TEI of Crete will have a presentation entitled: "Benefits and Prospects of Using Wireless Community Networks in Community Health: The case of Sarantaporo.gr".
